2026 World Ocean’s Day- Hudson Waterway Cleanup

Over 30 volunteers and more than a dozen boats came out on June 6, 2026, to clean out the Hudson water-ways. Approximately 1500 lbs of debris was collected, thanks to Pasco County Public Works for arranging removal of the debris. Additional material gathered during the effort will be recycled by local residents. This World Oceans Day Cleanup was also part of the overall Greatest American Cleanup, further supporting nationwide efforts to protect and restore our natural spaces.

Beyond the impressive amount of debris removed, the cleanup highlighted the community’s growing commitment to protecting local waterways. Volunteers reported finding everything from discarded fishing gear to household plastics, underscoring the ongoing need for public awareness and responsible waste disposal. Organizers noted that this year’s turnout was one of the strongest yet, reflecting increased interest in hands on environmental stewardship. The event also provided an opportunity for participants to learn about the impacts of marine debris, the importance of proper recycling, and the role each resident can play in preserving the health of the Hudson ecosystem.
