Trees are important because they remove CO2 and pollutants therefore reducing the “heat island effect”.  They also preserve soil by decreasing storm water run-off, and provide shade and shelter for many animals.  Florida has celebrated Arbor Day on the third Friday in January since 1886.

Keep Pasco Beautiful invites the community to an Arbor Day Celebration on January 18, 2019 at the UF/IFAS Pasco County Extension operated One Stop Shop (OSS) located at 15029 14th Street in Dade City. The event begins at 10:00 a.m. and will go to 12:00 p.m. As part of this celebration of trees, free Redbud seedlings will be available, while supplies last! Approximately 600 seedlings will be handed out in our community during the week of Arbor Day. Keep Pasco Beautiful will also be planting two trees in the community garden.

The following seminars will be offered by the Master Gardeners:

* Backyard Fruit Trees

* Pruning of Trees

* Proper Planting of Trees

“We think the best way to show our love of trees is by sharing them with the community,” said Keep Pasco Beautiful Coordinator Kristen King. The seedling giveaways are made possible through a partnership with Pasco County, Keep Pasco Beautiful, Covanta Pasco and UF/IFAS Pasco County Cooperative Extension.
